My New Laundry Room: Design Board

Ugh. That is how I feel every time I walk into my laundry room.

After living in my home for more than three years, I decided it was time to put my “mark” on our home. As an interior designer, it has been hard to not do anything on the house, but it was needed. You see, three years ago I got a husband, two stepsons, a new home, and a new job all at the same time. I had a lot of adjusting to do. When I had free time, I invested it in my relationships with my new husband and sons, not in paint color, or furniture.

Our place looked nice. When we bought it, it was “move in ready” with new cabinets, newly painted walls, new carpet, etc. It was all new, not necessarily my style, but it was new and it was perfect for what we needed! Recently I had jaw surgery and was confined to the couch for the past three months due to pain, nausea, and several other side affects that usually accompany someone who has their face re-worked to correct jaw problems. After three months I started getting antsy and began resuming design work with my clients. Working on my client’s homes really inspired me to tackle the worst rooms in my house. So naturally I started with my Laundry room. Naturally.

The Laundry Room?

Yes, I know it sounds weird, but of all the rooms in our house that I would love to tweak or redesign, the laundry room was first on my list. Why? Well, it is a smaller space that was very cluttered, and, if that weren’t bad enough, I hate doing laundry and I figured that if I loved my laundry room then I might be more excited about doing laundry. Yes, I am a dreamer. Lastly, after scouring and searching Pinterest to find laundry room inspiration that could be accomplished on a very small budget (less than $150), I was pretty shocked when I couldn’t find any laundry rooms that wowed me. The only images I found were of laundry rooms with the standard cabinets and shelves. These were good and a lot of people have greatly improved their laundry rooms, but the laundry rooms didn’t wow me. I wanted to be wowed and I thought that their just might be others out there who feel the same way. Of course, if I wanted to spend a fortune and completely re-do my laundry room, I had plenty of ideas for that type of laundry room, but I had no such fortune.

I knew I wanted the laundry room to resemble my three favorite colors: white, gold, and black. I wanted it to feel clean, organized, and also have a touch of glam. I love glam.

Anyway, my project has begun and I can’t wait to show you more photos, but for now, below is a photo that inspired me and gave me hope that I would one day love my laundry room! Stay tuned for the big Laundry Room reveal…
